William Nathan Barker, Sr.
Funeral services for William Nathan Barker, Sr., 81, of Hallsville will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Hallsville with Bro. Joe Hancock and Bro. Monty Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Hallsville Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. He passed away Thursday, May 16, in a Longview hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Barker was born April 10, 1932 in Harrison County, TX to Olin and Cora Perry Barker, and was a lifetime resident of the Hallsville area, where he was a 1951 Graduate of Hallsville High School. He attended Kilgore College. He was a retired carpenter from Morton Thiokol. He attended the First Baptist Church of Hallsville and the Hallsville Church of Christ.
For many years, Mr. Barker coached Little League and was an avid Hallsville Bobcat fan. As a lover of southern gospel music, he would attend every "singing" possible .
Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Linda Susette Barker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Vernell Richardson Barker of Hallsville; his devoted children, Larry Barker and wife Rebecca, Kenneth Barker and wife Sherrie, Kevin Barker and Billy Barker and wife Devin all of Hallsville; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Karen, Kimberly, Lucas, Brandon, Brian, Joshua, Tim, Blake, Charles, Ella and Ethan and numerous great grandchildren; also he is survived by his sister Melba Reedy and husband Larry.
