William Henry Mitchell Jr's Obituary
William Henry Mitchell, Jr., age 93, went to be with his Lord and Savior August 21, 2017 while at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas March 24, 1924 to William and Nellie Mitchell.
William proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist 2nd class. He earned his BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas and was a member of Tau Beta Pi which is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society. He worked for and retired from Exxon Mobil Corporation after 27 years.
During their college years, William met Frances Roberts while doing volunteer work with Youth for Christ and later they married in Little Rock on August 17, 1947. This year they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
William was a man of deep faith and Loved the Lord with all his heart. He actively served in numerous churches wherever he was transferred during his working years. He was an ordained Deacon in the Baptist Church. He loved church music and often led singing in the churches where he served. In his later years, William moved to the Longview area and became a member of the Heartland Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon there and led congregational singing past his 90th birthday.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 70 years Frances Mitchell, three children Daniel Mitchell, Susie Conn, and Pazzie Lucksinger, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
His parents precede him in passing.
A Celebration of His Life will be 3pm, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Heartland Baptist Church in Longview with Reverend Ron Witcher officiating.
