William L."Bill" Hill's Obituary
William L. “Bill” Hill
William Lawrence Hill departed this world to be in the presence of the Lord on September 27, 2013.
His last days, hours and minutes were spent in his home surrounded by his girls, his wife of 62 years and other much loved family members and friends.
Bill was born August 15, 1926 in Tulsa, OK. He was raised in the Kilgore area and lived in Longview most of his life. He coached for Judson ISD for 5 years before opening and running a successful insurance agency. After selling his agency he returned to the oil and gas industry, which he knew and loved from his childhood.
At 87 years old, he was still a kid at heart. He enjoyed games, the comic strips, and always had a passion for motorcycles and fast cars. He was very creative and constantly had a project going. His last project was a down-hole heater for oil wells that he patented and proved.
Bill loved to sing and had a beautiful voice, which he used to praise the Lord in worship. For many years he was a gifted song leader and participated mightily in the congregational worship services. He also “starred” in community plays and musicals as a younger man. Cancer of the larynx took away his joy of singing the last ten years of his life. It is a comfort to know he has now been restored and is singing in full voice again.
Bill will be remembered for his love of God first, his family second, and his work third. He served as an elder for the Judson Rd. Church of Christ. He was the true definition of a family man. He loved passionately and stood firm for what he believed to be right. His wife, children and grandchildren will testify to his unending commitment and support. Present for every event, yelling support from the stands, congratulating the accomplishments – his voice will ring in minds and memories forever.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lyndell Rusk and his grandson Ryan Hamilton.
He is survived by his three children Rhonda Hamilton and her husband Ron, Rhetta Collier and her husband Glenn, Resa Allen, and his wife Dorothy Richardson Hill, grandchildren Will Wilkins and family, Randon Hamilton, Chris Wilkins and family, Trent Allen and family, Ashley Collier, Alex Collier, Audrey Collier, Aaron Collier, and dear friend Joe Allen.
There will be a time of visitation Monday, September 30, 2013 from 5 pm - 7 pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Funeral services will be the next day, Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the funeral home starting at 4m with interment to follow at Rosewood Park Mausoleum in Longview.
Memorial may be made to the Ryan Hamilton Memorial Baseball Field, c/o Rhonda Hamilton, and mailed to PO Box 3112, Longview, TX. 75606
