Graveside services for William Herschel "W.H." Spinks, 96, of Longview will be held at the Rosewood Park Mausoleum on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 1 P.M. Mr. Spinks passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Summer Meadows after a 3 month illness. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013.
Mr. Spinks was born in Emory, TX to Bertha Fritzgerald and Britton Calhoun Spinks on April 20, 1917. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He was a graduate of East Texas State University "A&M Commerce" and Kingsville A&I "A&M". He was in the education field for 22 years. He was a principal and superintendent in Alton, TX before his retirement in 1972. Mr. Spinks ranched for 10 years in McAllen, TX and then moved to Longview in 1989. He was a member of education and civic organizations such as Who's Who in Texas, Who's Who in South and South West, Marquis Who's Who in England Great Britain. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Summer Meadows and Heart's Way Hospice for the special care they gave Mr. Spinks in the last days of his life.
Mr. Spinks is survived by his wife of 70 years Lillie Loreda Spinks; son and daughter-in-law William Phillip and Mary Spinks of Plano, TX; daughters Brenda Meadows of Longview, Carol Smith of Florida; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Molly Spinks of Richardson; numerous nieces and nephews.
