Mr. W. H. Sammons, a brother in Christ and a good friend to those less fortunate, will be missed by many who received his ministering in word and deed. I will miss the words we shared when he would come to my office.
Bill was able to share with me his pain in being able to provide only modestly for his family while he served as a bi-vocational lay pastor in several venues. His love for the Lord transcended the comforts of this world. He never wore a new pair of shoes or fancy clothes any time I saw him over the past 7-8 years--it was important to him as he would often apologise for his appearance--but it wasn't as important as the true love of his giving himself sacrificially to Jesus.
As Bill's family doctor during the last years of his life, it was my pleasure to serve so fine a bondservant of Christ. He told me tales of teaching Bible stories to a lot of little "rascals" who needed both the milk of human kindness and the firmness of a tough disciplinarian. He gave up the comfort of worshipping in a pleasant, large church to teach unwashed, underprivileged children or lead a rural congregation as a lay pastor.
The openness with which Bill was able to speak about his joys and tribulations in dragging his family to one small church after another to serve without great recognition or even thanks opened for me opportunity to hear the vibrant testimony of an unsung saint of christianity. I counted it a high privilege.
When Bill was diagnosed with an incurable illness, one which would in all likelihood cause pain in the last months, he was undaunted. He asked a few questions about the illness and then ... wondered out loud how the Lord could use him.##imported-begin##Rob & Phyllis Cary##imported-end##

Brother Bill was a great man and I
remember the days at Cedar Springs
Baptist Church. He Baptized me in 1966. He was the best pastor we
ever had at that little church.
Many years have passed since then, but I have always said and will continue to say the Brother Bill was
the best pastor, and nicest person, along with his family, that I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He will be greatly missed. Heaven is
receiving a Great Gift.
My sincere Condolences to his family.

We would like to express our deepest, heart-felt sympathies for the family of Mr. Sammons. His son Danny is our youth minister at Calvary in Longview. It was very apparent from the many times Bro. Danny has mentioned his dad, that he was a much loved and respected man.
We pray God's deepest comfort and peace during this time of grief for the family. The Lord bless each one of you.
