William Henley Bill Sammons
William Henley Bill Sammons, 73, of Ore City went home to be with his Lord on July 14, 2003.
Left to treasure his memory is his wife of 50 years Betty L. Ratley Sammons. Two sons and wives, David and Teresa Sammons of Burleson, TX.; Danny and Wanda Sammons of Ore City, TX., two daughters and husbands, Donna and Jamie McConnell of Tomball, TX., and Debbie and Kevin Hill of Krugerville, TX., Nine grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Two brothers W. Marland Sammons of Ashland, OR., and George Sammons of Lithia, Fl., two sisters, Beuton Hudgins of Woodville, TX., and Helen Brown of Anchorage, AK, several nieces, nephews, cousins and great host of friends.
Bill was born July 17, 1929 in Logan, Texas to George Henley Sammons and Betty Johnson Sammons. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Holly Campbell, Christine Hartman, and Lyndall Eyrick.
Bill was a retired bi-vocational pastor, having served in churches in East Texas and Oklahoma for 36 years. Previous employers include Brown and Root, H. B. Zachary, LTV, Chance Vought and General Dynamics.
He served two years in Japan in the Korean War in mine demolitions. He loved his country and was proud to serve in the Army to protect it.
Bill loved his Lord and loved people. He was a ?grand-dad? to many young people and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Two O?clock pm Thursday July 17, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Diana with Brother Gary May officiating. Internment will be at Crossroads Cemetery in Harrison County.
Pallbearers will be Barrett McConnell, Jamie McConnell, Kevin Hill, C. G. Hudgins, Harvey Lewis Campbell, Charity Sammons, and Mindy Sammons Kim Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men?s 111 SS class of First Baptist Church of Diana, the 578th Combat Engineers, Co. and area pastors.
