William E. Bill Davis
Bill went home to his Lord on March 27, 2006 at the age of 81. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, March 30, 2006 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road with Brothers James Schaefer and Noah Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the funeral home.
The family would like to express appreciation for the care given by Dr. John Griefenkamp, Dr. Jeff Shea, and the staff of Greater Hospice of Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials that be made in honor of Mr. Davis to: Greater Hospice of Texas, 1905 West Loop 281, Longview, Texas 75604.
Born December 23, 1924 in Sherman, Bill moved to Longview at age 6. He graduated from LHS in 1943 and served the U.S. Air Force as a P38 photo recon pilot over the Pacific in WW II. Bill retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 40 years of distinguished service and perfect attendance, having worked in East Texas and Dallas. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes. Bill also enjoyed playing golf, scoring two ?hole-in-ones?, and working in his shop.
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Melba; three children, Kay Harris of Kilgore, William E. Davis, Jr. of Houston, and Debbie Moore and husband David of Grapevine; three step-children, Gloria Whitefield and husband James of Magnolia, AR., Jimmy Woods and wife Ginger of Marshall, and Chuck Woods of Marshall; as well as 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren that he loved dearly.
