William David “WD” Cagle born September 19, 1944 died after a courageous battle with MDS and pneumonia. The son of Roland and Rosie Cagle, he graduated from East Texas State University and began working as a programmer for the Cit Read Obituary
I have many fond memories working with WD's brother Mike, and later with WD when he worked for Amdahl. I just ran across this, and it makes me very sad. WD was such a nice person, and a real credit to the Computer Industry. I'll never forget his yellow Datsun with the license plates "WD 240Z". RIP my friend. Grace and Peace to all of the family.

I worked with W.D. at Amdahl for about 18 of the 22 years that I worked there.
We once had to fly to Washington D.C. to work in a pesky problem at the Army Logistics Command in the Pentagon (a place when you go in and it becomes 5 pm and you haven't left yet, you're there till 8 am the next morning). We boarded the UAL flight for Dulles. W.D. thought we should upgrade to First Class - we discussed it and decided might not be such a good thing...and it was a very wise decision as it turned out Jack Lewis was on board the same flight and in First Class.
When we arrived at Dulles, we met Mr. Lewis on the transport to the terminal and wished him a good evening. Whew - that was a close call that we made not to upgrade!
No doubt W.D. was the one of the smartest guys I ever had the pleasure of working with - Code In Peace W.D.!
Pat, so sorry to read if your loss. You and W.D. are such sweet people. I was so lucky to get to work with you so I could meet him.

I am so sorry to hear about WD's passing. I knew him since high school. We were room mates at East Texas State University and in Dallas after we graduated. I was the person who talked WD into taking his first computer course--it was called "auto coder" -- we worked on an IBM 1620 computer -- the instructor's name was Frank Fleming.
In Dallas, I remember him "hooking up" their main computer to the FBI's identification system with Atlanta and Washington D. C. -- that was in 1968 -- no Internet. That was a real feat. We ran that program to see if he was in the system--he was, because he had been in the National Guard. I wasn't in the system. Early on in his career he was definitely a superstar with computers.
He was a great guy and he will be missed--God Bless!

Pat & Family, We are heartbroken for you all at this incredibly sad time. WD was the sweetest man & we knew time with him would surely be filled with the most interesting facts. Not just great stories, but actual facts he learned from his world travels, jobs & daily life. I'm so glad you two found each other "again" during a class reunion & enjoyed your beautiful life together.
