Wesley Lloyd Simmons
Funeral services for Wesley Lloyd Simmons, 85, of Longview will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19th, 2016, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Rev. Robert Hall officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Longview.
Mr. Simmons passed away Tuesday September 13th, 2016, at Harbor Hospice hospital in Beaumont, Texas with his family by his side.
Mr. Simmons was born July 21, 1931, in Marlow, OK. He lived in Longview for more than 70 years and retired as a homebuilder in early 1990’s.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Pauline Bell Simmons. He was also preceded in death by his father, Bradford N. Simmons, his brother, Leon Simmons, and his sister Louise Ray.
He is survived by his mother, Ruby Simmons of Tyler, sisters, Pat Allen of Tyler, Lois Burns of Tyler, and Sue LaBorde of Alexandria, LA; 3 children, Gay Hull and husband Jerry of Charleston, SC, Diane Morrison of Owasso, OK, Mark Simmons and wife Lesa of Silsbee, Tx.
He is also survived by six grandchildren: Blake Nelson, Dustin Ray, Joshua Ray, Brandon Laird, Chase Simmons and Logan Simmons; and nine great grandchildren: Sydney Barkley-Nelson, Kayden Ray, Makala Ray, Noah Ray, Jaxon Ray, Jett Ray, Cayden Laird, Paxton Laird, Slade Laird and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Simmons was a veteran of the U. S. Army and Air Force serving from 1946-1953 and served in Army infantry ground forces during the Korean War. After military service he was employed at Lone Star Steel and then joined his father in homebuilding in the Longview area. He continued his career in home construction for over 30 years before retiring due to medical issues.
Lloyd was an avid outdoorsman and gardener and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends fishing and camping throughout East Texas. He was famous with his family for his awesome fish fries and barbecues.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday September 18th at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Memorials can be made to Harbor Hospice Hospital in Beaumont, TX.
