Wayne Mathis' Obituary
Wayne Mathis age 75 of Longview passed away at home with is loving family by his side on November 8, 2013. He was born November 1, 1938 in Henderson to Luther and Grace Mathis.
Wayne earned his associates degree in Business from Kilgore College and worked as machinist and had a very successful career in manufacturing. He never met a stranger and made everyone he met feel like his friend. He kept friends and family entertained by his many jokes he loved to share. Wayne enjoyed singing and playing the guitar at home and in church. He loved to travel and took in many sites around the country and world. He traveled many times to Thailand and loved Thai food, especially the dishes his daughter-in-law prepared for him. His greatest joy was his family, especially the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If you knew anything about Wayne you knew if something was in need of repair he was the man that could fix it. Wayne was a faithful member of the Pinecrest Baptist Church in Kilgore.
Wayne’s parents and brother-in-law Jack Hawkins all preceded him in death.
Those left to cherish is memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Mathis, daughter Kimberly Perkins, son Curt Mathis and wife Ratsami of Longview, and sister, Barbara Hawkins of Houston. Grandchildren Lona Kaye Hester and husband Cody, Lauren and Layla Jaynes, Cody and Cailee Mathis and great grandchildren Gunner and Kenzley Hester all of Longview.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation today from 6pm-8pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Funeral services will be the next day, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 10am at Fellowship Baptist Church in Longview. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park in Longview.
