Now that I live in Austin, I do not know about the loss of many Longview citizens. I want Chief Fort's family to know that while I served on Longview's City Council, I was very honored to know a great civic servant! I admired his philosophy and he was always willing to take the time to educate me on all aspects of the fire department, its needs and its services. I never got a chance to meet Chief Fort, but I have got to hear stories and share memories with others. As a dispatcher and part of the emergency services we all share alot. I can say that

Arthur,
I first met you and Lee in 1957 when I started working for the Gladewater F.D. We attended the Texas A & M Training School together. Although I hadn't seen Lee in many years, I am saddened by his death. He was a dedicated public servant. Our prayers are with you. May God give you special grace in this difficult time.

I know words cannot express the loss you are feeling. Lee was a wonderful example of how we should live our lives. He always cared about helping those in need and felt like we should always do that to the best our ability. He taught me so much and I am honored to have worked with him. I hope one day I can say I did as much good for other people as Lee did.
