Walter Jack Pither's Obituary
Funeral services for W. J. Pither, 87, of Longview, will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Chalk Hill Assembly of God, with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Chalk Hill Cemetery in Chalk Hill. Mr. Pither passed away on Tuesday morning, March 1, 2011.
Mr. Pither was born December 26, 1923, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Walter Jack and Edna Pither. He was raised and educated in Shreveport, LA. Jack entered the armed services at the beginning of World War II. He served honorably and fought in five major campaigns; Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Shreveport and married Loyce Goodwin on June 1, 1946. Jack and Loyce moved to Longview Texas in 1952 where they opened Pither Plumbing Company. Mr. Pither operated the business for many years and was known for his honesty and integrity throughout East Texas. After his retirement Jack's sons and daughter-in-law, Pat and Brenda Pither, took over the business which is currently in operation and is now managed by a third generation of Pithers, Patrick and Brandi. Jack and Loyce attended Southside Assembly of God Church for many years and were faithful supporters of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jack lived by his Christian principles and was an example and inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.
Mr. Pither was preceded in death by his parents and seven of his siblings. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-four years, Loyce; sons, Walter Jack Pither III and his wife Tonya, Pat Pither and his wife Brenda; daughters, Janelle McKinley and her husband Ron, Paulette Mayfield; sister, Jeane Beavers; grandchildren, Bridget Broomhall, Patrick Pither II, Aprill Custer, Nathan McKinley, Amanda Pither, Alesha Moon, John Paul Mayfield, Johnna Nicole Mayfield; great-grandchildren, Cody Calhoun, Breonna Martin, Savannah Broomhall, Patrick Lee Pither III, Brennen Jack Pither, Adam Custer, Bryce Custer, Caleb McKinley.
