Vondell Tuttle's Obituary
Vondell Marie Tuttle passed away November 30, 2018. She was born August 2, 1925 in Gilmer Texas, the daughter of Lonnie Foy and Iba Stracener of Bettie Texas. Vondell married Horace Young Tuttle on June 17th, 1945 and celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage. Horace passed away September 1st, 2012.
She was preceded in death by one older brother Clyde Stracener of Gilmer Texas and Zelda Stone of Kilgore. Her younger sister, Eugenia Hunter, currently resides in Shreveport La.
Vondell grew up in the small community of Bettie Texas working on the family farm. Every family member shared in the responsibilities of providing for the family. Vondell graduated from Union Hill High School in 1942 at the age of 17. Vondell graduated valedictorian of her class as well as each of her sisters (Zelda and Eugenia).
After graduation, Vondell pursued a career in nursing working as a nurse’s aid in Tyler and Gilmer before moving to Dallas to further her education at Parkland Hospital. During that time, she met Horace and they were married in 1945 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Bettie Texas. That same year, they moved to Marshall Texas, bought their first home and started their family. Horace and Vondell have one daughter, Janice Marie Kibbe of Alvin Texas and one son, Horace Michael Tuttle of Allen Texas. Horace and Vondell’s family gradually grew to 4 grand-children and 10 great- grand-children.
Vondell was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Longview Texas and was an active volunteer in the community. Vondell will always be remembered as a loving wife to her husband and devoted mother to her family.
A memorial service for Vondell will be held on Wednesday, December 12 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home.
