Vivian Laverne Leith's Obituary
Vivian Laverne Leith, 90, of Longview went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Bro. Jerry McCaghren officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-8 PM.
Born on September 17, 1921, she was the youngest of 13 children born to Patrick Henry O'Keefe and Laura Alice Garman. She moved to Longview in 1939, completed Longview High School, and then went to work as a waitress at the T&P Café in the old junction area. She frequently helped serve train loads of soldiers during WWII.
She married George E. Leith on January 25, 1947. They were active members of Alpine Church of Christ where she taught children's bible classes for several years. She volunteered with the ladies bible class at nursing homes, doing manicures and making lap robes for patients. She was an excellent seamstress and lovingly shared this talent with family and friends and loved sewing for her grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a sweet, quiet person who lovingly shared with others. She had a subtle wit that would appear when least expected. Her faith in the Lord impacted all who knew her. She faced the challenges of Alzheimer 's disease with grace, dignity, faith and courage throughout and kept a sweet spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Leith; her parents, her 12 older siblings; and an infant son.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Thomas Rutledge of Longview; her grandchildren, Erin and Michael Jereb of College Station, and John Rutledge of Longview; her very special nephew Dwayne Jones of Longview; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers Betty Foster and Angela Williams. Also to the staffs of Highland Pines, Good Shepherd, and Texas Home Health Hospice for all their loving care and help.
