Virginia Raab Gowen Brown's Obituary
Virginia Raab Gowen Brown age 89, a long time resident of East Texas, passed away May 15, 2012 at The Harbor at Buckner Westminster Place, Longview. She was born May 7, 1923 in Shreveport, LA to Dr. Charles R & Anita R Gowen.
Mrs. Brown attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and graduated from U. T. in Austin. She received two Master degrees later in her career. Mrs. Brown was involved in and retired from the education field.
Ginny was always the one to take on the world head on as it came to her, accepting whatever life presented her with acceptance of the challenge.
She was an avid swimmer and enjoyed teaching water aerobics. Mrs. Brown was also a member of the Episcopal Church in Carthage, Paris and Longview Texas.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter Tinka Amos, sons Robert G. Brown and his wife Janet and Charles W.R. Brown, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in passing by her loving husband R. G. Brown, III, parents Dr. Charles R & Anita R Gowen, sister, Ernestine Gowen Liles.
There will be a time of visitation Thursday May 17, 2012 at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, from 5pm-7pm. Funeral services will be the next day, Friday, May 18, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Longview starting at 10am. Officiating will be The Reverend Kevin Wittmayer. Interment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery, Longview.
In lieu of flowers suggested donations may be made to Care Team Hospice of Longview or Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center, Drive, P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Harbor at Buckner Westminster Place, Longview and also Care Team Hospice of Longview for there loving care of their mother.
Arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home, Longview.
