Virginia Byrd Tompkins' Obituary
Graveside services were held on Saturday, May 1, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens, Pensacola, FL, for Virginia Byrd Tompkins, 94. Mrs. Tompkins died in Longview, TX, on Friday, April 23, 2010. She was born to Joseph Earl and Annettor Dean Byrd in Birmingham, AL, on July 11, 1915. She was married in Atlanta, GA, on December 3, 1937, to Bruce Elwood Tompkins who preceded her in death in 1998. They lived in Pensacola from 1938-1997. She was a homemaker. In 1997, they moved to Plano, TX, to be near their children. Mrs. Tompkins has lived in Longview for the past three years. She is a member of The Campus Church in Pensacola. She is survived by her two daughters, LeNoir and Dave Foster of Carrollton, TX, and Wynne and Dave Young of Avinger, TX, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 8, at 2:30 p.m. at Colonial Village, 2910 N. Eastman Road, Longview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Beacon Hospice at Margaret?s House, P. O. Box 5908, Longview, Texas 75608, or the charity of your choice.
