Violet Marie Hammett's Obituary
Funeral services for Violet Marie Hammett, 95, of Longview will be held at 10 AM Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Rosewood Park Mausoleum with Reverend Beau Sullivan officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Hammett passed away Wednesday afternoon surrounded by her family. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
Violet was born on November 18, 1921, in Chicago, Ill to George and Emily VanCura. She proudly served her country during WWII in the United States Navy. She was a member of the Navy Waves, Secretary to the Base Commander, and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 2nd Class. Mrs. Hammett was a Polio survivor who loved life to the fullest. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for many years, she loved gardening, and was passionate about helping Veterans in our community. She faithfully volunteered at the local VA for many years. Violet worked for many years at the Gregg County Airport as Secretary and was interim manager of the Airport for several years. She loved what she did and she was a very accomplished woman, who lived a wonderful and full life. She will be deeply missed by countless people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles N. Hammett, Jr; and her grandson, Kenneth Lee Hammett.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ken Hammett and wife Billie Jane of Harleton, and Charles Hammett and wife Chalor of Thompson Falls, Montana; granddaughters, Kimberly Hannan and husband Michael of Diana, TX, Malisa Hammett of Auburn, Washington, Angela Pineda and husband Christian of O’Fallon, Ill, and Susanna Jacobs and husband Christopher of Valdosta, Georgia; great grandchildren Stephanie Hannan, Kayla Horan, Michael Hannan, Mason Jacobs, and Charlotte Pineda; great-great grandchildren Brooklyn, Lana, Drake and Kinsley.
