Victor Hugh Hamilton's Obituary
Victor Hugh Hamilton, age 79, of Longview, Texas, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in Longview, Texas. Victor was born on December 1, 1942, to Phillip and Lorene Hamilton in Lubbock, Texas. Victor spent his childhood in Amarillo, Texas after his parents and siblings moved there in 1943. After graduating from Amarillo High School, Victor moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, and attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry.
It was in the summer of 1962, while serving on summer staff at Glorieta, New Mexico, Victor met Juanita Thornton. Victor and Juanita were married on August 21, 1965, in Shreveport, Louisiana. They moved to Arlington, Texas, where Victor worked as a Landscape Architect for Six Flags Over Texas. After briefly living in Jasper, Texas, Victor and Juanita moved to Kirbyville, Texas, in 1969 where they would raise their three children. Victor worked for Kirby Forest Industry and Louisiana-Pacific as a forester, where he was once named Kirby Man of the Year; however, he wore many hats, serving the citizens of Kirbyville from 1969-2020 as a reserve Police Officer, a city councilman, the mayor, and a volunteer firefighter. After retirement, Victor continued to stay busy as a School Resource Officer for Kirbyville CISD. In 2020, Victor and Juanita moved to Longview, Texas.
Victor was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in Kirbyville, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed traveling, going on mission trips, hunting and fishing, and spending time with cherished family and friends, but what he loved most of all was telling others about his savior, Jesus Christ.
Victor is survived by his loving wife, Juanita, and three children, Stephen Hamilton of Huntsville, Texas; Jeffrey Hamilton and his wife Mindy of Gilmer, Texas; and Vikki Thomas and her husband James of Longview, Texas. He was known as Pepaw to his nine grandchildren: Rhiannon Hamilton, Cassidy Hamilton, Lexie Hamilton Hood and husband Noah, Elizabeth Hamilton, Nicholas Hamilton, Lela Hamilton, Laney Hamilton, Jayden Marsolan, and Caelynn Marsolan, as well as a great-grandson, Henry Hood, all of whom he loved very much. Victor is also survived by his siblings Phillis Rhine and her husband Jack of Kingsland, Texas, and Eugene Hamilton and his wife Colleen of Amarillo, Texas; brother-in-law Jack Thornton and his wife Freda of Arlington, Texas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service and celebration of Victor’s life will be held Saturday, November 12th at Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview at 2pm. Rader Funeral Home of Longview will be coordinating the service with Scott Schulik, Minister to Maturing Adults at Mobberly Baptist Church, officiating. A visitation time will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mobberly Baptist Church’s Missions Fund or the East Texas Pregnancy Help Center in Jasper, Texas.
