Vernon Dennis' Obituary
Vernon "Ray" Dennis was born October 14, 1929 in Coleman, Texas to Demi and William Dennis. He married Nellie Rose Wright on January 4th, 1964. They were members of Longview Metro Church. He was highly successful in the Petroleum Industry for many years. The Lord took him from his earthly home on the morning of October 10, 2009 to live in His Eternal Home.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Nell. His 4 children: Gary & Chris Gillette Jr., Dee and Geary Brown, David and Betty Jenzen, and Tammy and Glenn Hodge. 2 biological children; Gary Ray and Brenda Dennis, and Jimmy Wayne Dennis. 8 grandchildren include: Sam Gillette, Adam and Brianna Gillette, and "T.J." Taylor James Gillette, Glenn and Terri Lynn Hodge Jr., Brandy and Lance Musgrove, Jana Lee and Jay Janzen, Misty and Dallas Orms. 6 biological grandchildren: Becky, Kelly, and Christy Dennis, Jeniffer, Bradley and Mellisa Dennis. Great grandchildren: Brysun Gillette, Kelsey Hodge, Garrison, Aiden and Kyley Musgrove, and Autumn Rose Orms. 3 biological great grandchildren: Blake and Brooke Dennis, and Shawn Dennis.
Ray had a special place in his heart for his mother-in-law, Luella Wright, his sister-in-law, Darlene Burch, and his 3 brother-in-laws, Walter and Judy Wright Jr., Gayland "Bud" and Sherrie Wright, and David and Maria Wright. A sister, Betty Jones. Ray is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and other family members. Ray and Nell were father and mother to many children who did not bare their name. His memory will live on in the hearts of many beloved friends.
He is preceeded in Death by his Mother and Father, and his brother Bill Dennis.
Misty, Dallas, and Autumn Orms, Sam and Brysun, Adam and TJ Gillette were the most blessed grand and great grandchildren to have shared his life with him.
The family will receive friends and family at a Memorial Celebration Service on Monday, October 12, at 7 p.m. At Longview Metro Church, located at 20310 N. Spur 63, Longview, Texas. The service will be officiated over by Pastor Rob Parson of Longview Metro Church and Pastor Rusty Brady of Texas Family Church located in Spring Branch, Texas.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shea, Dr. Rangu, Dr. Waltrip, Dr. Germanwala, Dr. Chastain, their staff and hospital nurses for their excellent care and who were so kind to him.
In lieu of flowers, a benevolent fund has been established at Community Bank, 3503 McCann Road, Longview, Texas in his name, attention Jeanne Smith.
Ray was a very special person to everyone in his life. We know he is riding high with Our Father.
