Vernell Barker's Obituary
A memorial service for Vernell Barker, 83, of Hallsville, will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Joe Hancock officiating. Mrs. Barker passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday afternoon surrounded by her family. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM.
Vernell was born on March 24, 1935 in Longview, Texas to Earl and Dollie Richardson. She worked at Hallsville Schools in the Study Hall for several years and then in personnel at Thiokol for over 20 years before retirement. She was known for never sugar-coating things and was to the point. She loved her family and sacrificed for them. Mrs. Barker was an avid reader and extremely smart. She loved her game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune.
Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Barker, Sr.; her daughter, Linda S. Barker; her parents; and her sister, Gayle Tyler.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Billy Barker and wife Devin , Larry Barker, Kenneth Barker and wife Sherrie, and Kevin Barker; sister Edna Muntz and husband Bethel; brother Johnny Richardson and wife Ceci; sister Nita Brown and husband John; 13 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
