Verdell Smith LaGrone's Obituary
Verdell Smith LaGrone was born April 29, 1939 in Waskom, TX to Demorise Sr. and Iver V Stephens Smith.
The family moved to Hallsville, TX in 1941 and there she grew up and was educated in the Rose Hill and Hallsville Galilee school system.
Verdell was united in holy matrimony to Hubert LaGrone on August 31, 1954 in Harrison County and to this union two daughters were born.
Verdell was a full time wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her favorite past time was going to the boat, watching football, playing the pot and talking to her best friend.
She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Vandell Smith.
Preceding her in death are her parents, siblings, R.L. Smith and Hattie V. Dillard; nieces, Pamela Taylor, Vera and Tamera Gamble; nephews, Ulysses Cox and Frederick Gamble; god-son, Sansiski Daniels and son-in-law, Neal Carter, Jr.
Cherishing her memories, a loving husband of 58 years, Hubert; daughters; Jennita Carter and Donna LaGrone both of Longview, TX, adopted son; Larry Don Burton of Longview, TX, grand daughters; Ti'Kaeko Garland Paul and Alize' Champion both of Longview, TX, great grandchildren; Tra'Dhailon Fletcher & his dad, Travis Fletcher of Shreveport, LA & Phaityn Garland of Longview, TX, sisters; Maurine Howard Hubert of Royse City, TX, Faye Taylor of Marshall, TX, and Jessie Smith of Hallsville, TX, brothers; Demorise Smith, Sr., Milton Smith and Jimmy Smith Earlean all of Dallas, TX, a sis-in-law; Martizett Bell Henry of Goldvein, VA, brothers-in-law; Arthur LaGrone Minnie, Nelson LaGrone and John LaGrone all of Longview, TX, a best friend of 65 years, Dorothy Martin and another special friend; Vera Hunter-Muldrew along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Verdell will be noon, Saturday, December 22, 2012 at St Paul Baptist Church in Longview. Burial will follow in Memory Park Cemetery in Longview. Arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2012 from noon-8 pm. at the funeral home.
