Verdean E. Whatley's Obituary
A graveside service for Verdean Butler Whatley, 85, of Longview will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Rosewood Park Cemetery with Rev. Ellis Hayden officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, December 19, at Rader Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whatley passed away peacefully Sunday, December 14, 2014. She was born on October 11, 1929 in Quinlan, Texas to Bessie May Cannon Butler and Andrew Jackson Butler. She met “the love of her life” on a blind date and married, William Herbert Whatley Jr., on July 3, 1947. Herb and Verdean transferred with United Gas to Longview in 1947 from Greenville, TX. Mrs. Whatley was a wife, mother and homemaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren and seeing her great grandchildren.
Mrs. Whatley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herbert in 2012; her mother and father; sisters, Neval White, Willie Mae Crabtree, and Dell Sanford; brothers, Bill Butler and Arvie Butler.
Mrs. Whatley is survived by her only child, Wanda Whatley Magown and husband Lloyd of Longview; Grandchildren, Brandy Magown Beer and husband Jason of Austin, Jeff Magown and Wife Ashley of Austin; Great-grandchildren, Gavin Beer, Jack Beer, Lila Magown and Eli Magown of Austin; One surviving brother, Arlen Jay Butler of Quinlan, TX.
The family would like to especially thank the wonderful and compassionate care Mrs. Whatley received from the McCann station nurses and aides at Treviso Transitional Care. Also we would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for all their support.
