Vera Fae Alcorn's Obituary
Vera Fae Porter Alcorn, a beloved Aunt, Sister and Friend, was born on December 15, 1940, in Crowell, TX, to Thomas Clarence Porter and Bertha Floyd Porter. On August 6, 2024, she peacefully entered into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Vera graduated from Crowell High School in May 1959 and continued her education at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, and Amarillo College in Amarillo, TX. On November 14, 1959, she married her devoted husband, James “Jim” Robert Alcorn, in Crowell, TX. Together, they built a life of love and faith, residing in Wichita Falls, TX, from 1959 to 1977, then in Amarillo, TX, from 1977 to 2004, when Jim passed away. Vera retired in June 2006 and moved to Longview, TX, to be near her sister, Dollie.
Vera's career reflected her dedication and hard work. She served at Southwestern Drug Corporation in Wichita Falls and Amarillo for a combined 17 years, first as a stock card clerk and later as an inventory manager. She then worked at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, TX, as an assistant bookkeeper, inventory clerk, and finally as an administrative assistant. She retired June 15, 2006, after 24 years of employment.
Vera was a faithful member of Connect Church in Longview, TX. Her love for the Lord was evident in her service to the church, where she volunteered in the office of Kidz Church and the financial office for a combined 11 years, retiring in 2018. Her dedication to serving others was a testament to her strong Christian faith and her commitment to living a life of service.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James “Jim” Robert Alcorn; her parents, Thomas Clarence and Bertha Porter; her brothers, Elbert Porter and Travis Porter; and her sister, Dollie Lanphier. Vera is survived by her brother, Floyd Porter, and his wife, Faith, of Jonesboro, AR; six nieces, Lori Burnett, Barbra Brown, Becky Rogers, Rhonda Decker, Tricia Moore and Deanna Wieland and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Vera's life was a shining example of Christian love and service. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, encouragement, hospitality and faith in our Lord. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration of Vera's life following at 11:00 a.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, TX. As we mourn her passing, we also rejoice in the knowledge that she is now with her Lord and Savior, experiencing the fullness of His glory.
