Van Modisette's Obituary
Funeral services for Van Modisette, 85, of Longview, will be 10 AM Friday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne Beaty officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Modisette died Tuesday evening, January 22, 2002 at his home.
Born November 2, 1916 in Lufkin, Texas he had been a resident of Longview since 1951.
He attended Stephen F. Austin University where he played basketball and boxed. He loved to coach basketball for the city and the church. Mr. Modisette was in the auto sales and truck rental business for over 35 years, having owned and operated Certified Auto Sales.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lamerle Dean Modisette, Children: Joe Modisette and Tom Modisette; Step-children: Dick and Zanetta McDaniel, Mark and Jamie McDaniel, Pam Davis and Vicki and Bobby Evans; Sisters: Ruby Hicks, Bernice Maberry, Elizabeth McNeel and Dennie Culbertson and husband, Earl; Grandchildren: Jeff Modisette, Rhett Modisette, Randon Modisette, Stacie Modisette and Angie Olvera; Step-grandchildren: Alicia McDaniel, Wesley McDaniel, Chris McDaniel, Emily Davis, Whitney Saulter, Logan Evans, Trevor Evans and Spencer Evans; Great-grandchild: Alex Olvera and Great Step-grandchild: Joseph Saulter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses special thanks to the Greater Hospice of Texas and to Delores, Loretta and Mary Louise.
Mr. Modisette was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Hurley Modisette in 1988, his grandson, Joe David ''Little Joe'' Modisette, II, his grandson, Zachary Evans and his parents, Dave and Augusta Modisette.
The family request memorials to Greater Hospice of Texas, the American Cancer Society or to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
