Mr. Wells was born June 17, 1916 in Graceton – Diana, TX to Thomas L. Wells and May-Belle Jones Wells. He graduated from Longview High School in 1934. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1940 and served during World War II. Mr. Wells was a Staff Sargent stationed in West Africa, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Corsica, and Italy, serving with the 57th Fighter Group, 64th Fighter Squadron. After his service ended in 1945, he returned to Longview, TX and worked in the Longview Post Office.
In 1947, Wells met his future wife and the love of his life, Lorine Ard from Mt Pleasant, TX. The couple married October 3, 1947 and settled in Longview where they spent nearly 60 years together. Lloyd and Lorine were members of Mobberly Baptist Church and raised their two children in the family home.
Mr. Wells worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 35 years. After retirement, he and Lorine enjoyed traveling across the United States, visiting states from one coast to the other. One of their favorite activities was going to Arkansas and picking apples or peaches, which they brought home and made into jams, jellies, and pies. Mr. Wells had a green thumb and could often be found working in his home garden. In particular, he grew tomatoes by the basketful which he shared with family and friends. Another favorite recreational activity for Mr. Wells was playing dominoes. He continued playing with whoever would be brave enough to take him on until his death. He beat everyone equally. Following the death of Lorine, he moved to Stillwater, OK to be closer to Diane and spent his last years in assisted living.
