Tommy J McMaster's Obituary
Funeral services for Tommy J. McMaster, 75 of Longview will be 2 PM Tuesday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Full Fire Department Honor Guard will follow at Rosewood Park.
Chief McMaster died Saturday, August 18, at Beacon Hospice at Margaret?s House.
He was born in Okolona, Arkansas on October 23, 1934 to Thomas and Marie McMaster.
Chief McMaster began his career with the City of Longview on March 23, 1960, serving as a Firefighter and a Driver/Operator until being promoted to Lieutenant on November 1, 1971; he was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief on December 28, 1976, assigned by the City Manager to be the Acting Fire Chief on November 16, 1979, and promoted to the position of Fire Chief on February 1, 1980, where he served as ?Chief Mac? for over thirteen years, retiring in 1993.
He served his community as a member of the Longview Fire Pension Board, Texas Eastman Fire School Advisory Committee, Kilgore College Fire Academy Advisory Committee, City of Longview EMS Advisory Board, member and former President of the Northeast Texas Firemen and Fire Marshall?s Association, and former Chairperson of the Longview emergency Planning Committee.
He was a Methodist and a United States Army Veteran.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughters, Lori Ottman and husband, Eric, and Donna Barba all of Houston; Grandchildren, Brian and Jaclyn Ottman and Justin Barba; brothers, Kenneth McMaster and Johnny McMaster; sisters, Joyce Golden and Nina Smith and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy McMaster.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 PM on Monday evening.
