Tommie Durwood Daniels' Obituary
Tommie Durwood Daniels was born in Palestine, Texas to Bennie Calvin Daniels and Inez Cooper on September 5, 1926. He grew up in Elkhart and he attended Palestine High School. He is preceded in death by his 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.
He was traveled by cattle car to San Diego, California to Navy and landing craft school. He went to the Pacific the U.S.S. LGS LB II 65 to the Pacific area. He was in the assault of the largest amphibian theater in WWII, Okinawa then on to Hiroshima Japan.
Tommie married Betty C. Daniels on October 15, 1948. They had 3 sons that they dearly loved and cherished, Thomas Mark Daniels and twin sons Kerry Don and Kelly Jon Daniels that preceded him in death. His daughter Beth Holdridge, two grandsons that he was proud of Blake Holdridge and wife Claire, Hunt Holdridge and wife Katie of Dallas, great grandsons Owen, Dawson, Hilton, Haywood and Hartford Holdridge.
He was a longtime resident of Longview. He was Charter Director of American Bank, President of Boyd Star Insurance (Family Owned) for two years. He helped build the Fairgrounds Exibit Building. Master Plumber for 50 years and appointed by President Lyndon Johnson to the Selective Service of Gregg County. The highlight of his life was buying his first airplane.
Services will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memory Park.
