Tom Nelson's Obituary
Thomas Walter Nelson, 75, stepped into heaven on June 13, 2024. On this day, Christ uttered “It is finished.” Tom began his new life in His presence after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Tom was born on May 22, 1949, in St. Paul, MN. He spent his childhood in South St. Paul, MN then attended LeTourneau College in Longview, TX. During that time is when he met the love of his life, Linda G. Sutton. They married on July 11, 1970, at Mobberly Baptist Church where he was a member for over 54 years.
Tom served 30 years in the military service, starting in the Army in Korea and concluding in the Air Force in Iraq at the age of 55. He dedicated 41 years of his career to Good Shepherd Medical Center, beginning as a radiology technologist and later becoming a diagnostic medical sonographer until his retirement in 2015. He was a gentle, tender-hearted, and a quiet individual, known for his respectful and generous nature towards his coworkers, friends, and family. He always maintained a sense of humor and had a special love for his pets. He had a great love for softball and golf as well as working tirelessly with the church’s sound and lighting crew for Easter and Christmas productions.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda S. Nelson of Longview; daughter Katie Nichols and husband Andy of Longview, TX; only grandchild Peyton Nichols of Longview, TX. He is also survived by sister-in-law Rhonda Canales and Paul of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law Barney Sutton of Longview, TX; nephew Carson Canales of Honolulu, HI; niece Skye Sutton of Tyler,TX; great niece Sutton Dolezal of Tyler, TX and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Eiola Nelson of South St. Paul, MN; in-laws Barney and Lillian Sutton of Longview, TX; Cameron Canales of San Antonio, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Mobberly Baptist Church, with a family visitation on Sunday, June 23,2024, Rader Funeral Home of Longview from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East Texas Alzheimer Alliance or Mobberly Baptist youth mission fund.
