Thomas Vernon Patterson's Obituary
Memorial Services for Thomas V. Patterson of Longview, Texas will be held at Mobberly Baptist Church on August 29, 2009 at 11:00 am/pm with Dr. Charles Barham officiating. Mr. Patterson was born September 15, 1932 in Skiatook, Oklahoma, to Ambrose and Irene Halbrook Patterson. As a small boy his family moved to Crane, Texas, and later to Odessa. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1951 and attended Odessa College. He left college to join the Navy but was discharged due to health problems. In 1956 he married Barbara Smith. They were blessed with two daughters, Holly and Kristy. Tom worked at several occupations from seismograph operator to oil field hand to bridge inspector for the Texas Highway Department. As his health began to suffer he used his accounting skills and worked for Ramada Inn and Motel 6. Upon retirement in 1993, they moved to Longview were they have enjoyed 16 years of East Texas hospitality. He was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church and enjoyed his small group, "The Prime Time Bunch". He loved sports, particularly Dallas Cowboy football and NBA basketball, and playing 42 at Sunday School socials. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, daughters and sons-in-law; Holly and Scott Forbes of Longview and Kristy and Greg Bonner of Coppell, Texas and four precious grandchildren; Abby and Bonnie Forbes and Austin and Cody Bonner. He also leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jean Patterson of Rockport, Texas and a niece and nephew and many dear friends. His family would like to thank his Mobberly family for their prayers and visits and the wonderful staff of Margaret's House for their loving care, and with special thanks to Drs. Schottstaedt and Holder for their commitment to total understanding of Tom's needs In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Mobberly Baptist Church building or library funds or to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House in Longview, Texas. There will be no visitation.
