Thomas Dudley Mills' Obituary
Thomas Dudley Mills, 70, of Lake Cherokee passed away on September 11, 2011 at Margaret?s House under the care of Beacon Hospice, after a lengthy illness. Tom Mills was born on November 18, 1940 in Oklahoma City, OK to Charles and Madge Hock Mills. Papa Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle known for his sense of humor and wit.
He graduated from NW Classen High School in Oklahoma City and continued his education at rivaling schools OSU then OU, where he majored in architecture. Tom worked for Thomas Roberts and Associates Landscape Architects in Tulsa, OK. He also worked for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK. In 1969 Tom moved to Longview where he worked for Harold Deteau Architecture and as an estimator for John Waddell Construction and Jimmie Hall Plumbing. He retired in 2002 after 20 years as a self employed contractor.
Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, being with family and in his iPad. He spent his last years in his dream home he designed on Lake Cherokee.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Honaker Mills of Lake Cherokee; daughter Mandy and husband Marcus Schoenenberger of San Antonio; son Michael Thomas Mills of Austin; grandchildren Preston and Meredith Schoenenberger of San Antonio; sister Judy Ramsay of Houston; brother in law and wife Bill and Jodie Honaker of Ft. Worth; nieces and nephews Kristy and Tim Hirning, Kim Morin of Houston and Mark Ramsay of Wyoming; great nieces and nephews Nicole and Conner Hirning, Jessica Morin and Bill Ogden of Houston. He was preceded by in death by his parents Charles and Madge Mills, brother Edward of Oklahoma City and son Charles William of Longview.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 14th from 5-7 at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. A memorial service will held on Thursday, September 15th at 4 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
The family requests donations be made to Margaret?s House, Beacon Hospice, Hwy 80 Rescue Mission or the charity of their choice.
