Theresa Ducote Rusk passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 77. She was born on November 22, 1948, in Plaucheville, Louisiana, to Anna Lee and Austin Ducote. Theresa spent her childhood in the 1950s in rural Louisiana, where she was raised in a close-knit farming community. Her childhood memories—often shared with French words and expressions—reflected her warmth and resilience and made entertaining stories. In 1968, she married Daniel Rusk. They later followed opportunity to Shreveport, where they raised their three children: Amie, Philip, and Marie. During that time, they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport. In the 1980s, while raising her family, Theresa worked as a skilled hairdresser. Driven by a desire to care for others, she returned to school and earned an associate degree in nursing followed by a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. As a registered nurse in Kilgore and Longview, she provided compassionate care to many. Daniel and Theresa celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2018 and September 2025 marked 57 years of marriage. Her Catholic faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. Known for her kindness and generosity, she had a special heart for children and those facing hardship.
Theresa was a gifted Cajun cook and a creative spirit. She found joy in preparing meals for loved ones, sewing by hand, gardening, decorating with charm, taking thoughtful walks, and traveling extensively—including visits to all seven wonders of the world. She is survived by her husband Daniel; her brother Geren; her sister Marion; her children Amie, Philip, and Marie; grandsons Anthony and Mason; and granddaughters Samantha, Genevieve, and Catherine. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Roger; and her sister Mary Jane. We honor Theresa's life by staying faithful, active, educated and adventurous.
Her legacy lives on through the stories she shared and the love she gave so generously. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
