Graveside services for Theodore M. Shelton, 78, of Longview, Texas, will be held at 4 PM Friday, October 12, at Grace Hill Cemetery with Father Joe Kannampuzha officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Shelton passed away Thursday morning at a local nursing center.
Mr. Shelton was born September 23, 1923 in New Orleans, LA., to Byron Edward and Louise Lanata Shelton. He was married to June P. Pollet on October 11, 1947 and moved to Longview in January of 1951.
He graduated from S. J. Peters High School in New Orleans. He served with honor in the Army during WWII as a member of the Battery ''B'' 374th Field Artillery Battalion. He was associated with Philip Werlien?s Music Store in New Orleans and Shreveport, LA., and Tatum Music Store in Longview, TX., as a musical instrument repairman, serving Northeast Louisiana and East Texas since 1947. He retired from this profession after over 60 years.
Mr. Shelton was widely known and respected in his profession and as a mentor to other musical instrument repairmen. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Longview Men?s Garden Club, The Lion?s Club of Longview and the Music Instrument Repairman?s Association of America.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, June Shelton of Longview; one son, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Byron Shelton; one daughter, Kathy Shelton McBride of Longview. Three grandchildren, Benjamin Robert and wife Mechelle Shelton of Broken Arrow, OK. and Bonnie Renee Shelton and Jon Claud McBride. One brother, Byron Edward Shelton of Corrigan, TX., many nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Parthum of Milwaukee, WI.
