Theda Rae McGee's Obituary
Theda R. McGee, 87, of Longview passed away Wednesday morning in a local nursing home. A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at New Salem Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are with Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
She was born on March 25, 1921 in Reklaw, Texas in Rusk County to J.R. "Dick" and Annie McKnight. Theda attended school in Reklaw and her senior year in Jacksonville. In 1943, she received her degree from SFA. She moved to Austin in 1944 and worked in the Department of Education and Legislature for one term. During WWII, Ms. McGee was selected for training in the Women's Air Force Service Pilots, or WASP, program and was stationed in Sweetwater, TX. She also taught in Austin Public Schools for 8 years. In 1955 she married the love of her life, Robert L. McGee. They were married for 55 years before he passed away in 2007. They moved to Rockdale, Texas where he worked for TXU. He retired in 1977, they sold their home, bought a travel trailer and traveled the States, Canada and Alaska for 4 years. In 1983, they moved to Reklaw and lived there for 21 years before moving to Longview in 2004.
Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents and her brother, Bridwell McKnight.
Those left to cherish her memory are her 2 sons, B.B. McGee and his wife Pam of Nederland, TX, and Richard McGee and his wife Jeanne of Longview, TX; 5 grandchildren, Erin Morgan of Houston, Robert McGee of Houston, Bradley McGee of Longview, Chelsey McGee of Longview, and Lauren McGee of Nederland; and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Whispering Pines Lodge and HeartsWay Hospice for all the loving care and attention they received over the years.
