Terry Lee Pool's Obituary
Terry Lee Pool possessed an adventurous spirit, a keen mind, a great sense of humor, a sensitive and loving heart, and a true zest for life. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed bicycling, camping and hiking, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, skiing, sail boating, playing the drums, listening to music, telling stories, and spending time with his family, friends and golden retrievers Gabriel and Mikey. He was an avid reader and accumulated a vast library. In addition, Terry appeared in three major Civil War films (Dances With Wolves, Glory, and Gettysburg) as a member of the 1st Nebraska Infantry, a Civil War reenactment regiment.
As a child and the son of a career Coast Guard officer, he called the East Coast, West Coast, the Mississippi River and the Pacific Island of Guam his home. He graduated from High School in Phillipsburg, KS, and immediately enlisted in the United States Marines where he served on the Island of Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his tour of duty, he entered the University of Southern Oregon, graduating with a degree in International Relations with a minor in Russian Studies. Having called the military home, he returned once again to service and officer’s candidate school in the United States Navy.
An injury sustained in a fall cut his military career short, and Terry moved to Lincoln, NE where he served as a corrections officer and addiction counselor for the Nebraska Prison System. It was at that time that he felt a call to enter the christian ministry, and completed his education at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. His first assignment was as Vicar for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Tacoma, WA. He then served as assistant pastor for Faith Lutheran Church, Pierre, SD including rural parishes located in Blunt and Harrold, SD, as chaplain for the medical schools of Creighton University and the University of Nebraska, and pastor for Divine Lutheran Church located in Omaha NE.
Possessing a restless soul, Terry sought refuge and renewal on the open road, and drove a truck across the same country he had traversed so many times as a small boy. He then returned to active ministry serving as hospital chaplain for Immanuel Rehabilitation Center and assistant pastor for St. Michael Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE, and pastor for Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington, NE as well as American Lutheran Church in Cozad, NE. He completed active ministry, serving as chaplain for Good Shepherd Lutheran Communities located in Blair, NE. Terry and Carol then retired to the Colorado Rocky Mountains where they enjoyed friends, family and the majestic and inspiring splendor of the landscape.
