Going through old pictures brought back so many memories of you Aunt Syndee. Visiting you at your tiny apartment by the beach, you were the quintessential California girl. You gifting me your old Barbies one summer while I was visiting- seemed like you had hundreds. The funny stories of accidentally stalking Pat Benetar. Your incredible voice and love for music. The massive amounts of music note confetti. Your love for all of your kitties who you found and saved.
May you rest in happier place; in a heaven full of 80s music, karaoke bars, sun, sand, and ocean, surrounded by your beloved kitties. And glittery music notes fluttering from above.
Syndee and I had been friends since the age of 12. We meet in 6th grade, although Syndee would always argue it was actually 5th. She was more than likely right, but I was such a shy quiet kid that she probably knew me, but I was in my own head...I think Syndee helped bring me out of my shell. It seems we did everything together. Hours of playing with barbies, then came along our love of gymnastics. We spent hours upon hours of perfecting our back walkovers, back handsprings, and aerials. I was always so jealous of Syndee earning her medal for her backflip! If there was a patch of grass anywhere near us, we were there showing off our gymnastic abilities. Our next passion came in high school; dance. Syndee was able to make it on the “Song Leading “ Team (our high school’s version of a dance team). Of course the absolute true passions of Syndee were song and cats, a passion that she would never out grow. Through the many years, we had some ups and downs and our lives moved us in different directions, but our friendship would always lead us back. Thank you Syndee for the years of friendship...I will miss you.
Syndee and I worked together for over 10 years and she had an AMAZING ability to work fast and accurately - I used to jokingly refer to her as an octopus. All of our accounts LOVED her and she took really good care of them all. She passed the brokers exam which was no easy feat - she studied hard and earned her Brokers License. My heart aches for the turn of events shortly after she received her license. She was on the cusp of a new professional chapter in her life when she suffered her stroke. God had other plans for her and she bravely faced her new challenges according to His will. Her job on this world is now complete and somewhere she is singing, laughing, driving a fast beautiful car and smoking with gusto. Wish I was there today with you all - my prayers are with you. REST IN PEACE DEAR SWEET SYNDEE. 🙏❤️ Janine
CYNTHIA (SYNDEE) IRENE PETTY
October 19, 1968-October 4, 2020
Our sister, Syndee Petty, was the baby of our family, born on sister Chris’ birthday on October 19, 1968, in Los Angeles, California. She was a happy little girl, adored and spoiled by all her big sisters. We lost Daddy when she was only 6 and she always missed having him in her life. Mom remarried 4 years later and Syndee grew up with Mom, Larry and assorted sisters in the house at a time.
She loved gymnastics in her younger years. Syndee loved music and had a beautiful voice. She was in the choir in high school and sang publicly at many karaoke events. She also sang at family weddings and the funeral of our stepfather, Larry. She wrote her own music and recorded herself singing some of her own music, along with her favorite songs. Every letter or card from Syndee always included a sprinkling of confetti music notes. We will play " We Belong" by Pat Benatar (her all time favorite), sung by Syndee, at her memorial service.
Syndee lived for most of her life in Southern California and that is where her heart was. She worked for many years as a customs broker. She moved from Southern California to Texas upon the death of our mother and lived with sister Cathy and her beloved cats in the Fort Worth area. She had just bought a house in Longview, Texas and moved into it 3 days before passing peacefully in her sleep on October 4, 2020. She was 51.
Syndee loved her cats…they were her children. She loved her family, including all her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is survived by her 5 older sisters, Connie “Elaine” Petty of San Antonio, Cheryl Petty Gregory (Mike) of Eugene, Oregon, Carla Petty of Houston, Cathy Petty of Kilgore, Texas, and Chris Dahmen of Beaverton, Oregon. She had 9 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all of us.
.
Rest in peace Syndee. We know you are with Mom, Daddy and Larry and all your cats who have gone before you. We hope you are singing and dancing in heaven. We will all see you again one day.
All our love….
.
Elaine, Cheryl, Carla, Cathy and Chris (the Petty girls)
You will be missed so much we love you
Aunt Syndee, you will be forever missed. I know you able to sing again and I will try to find the beauty in that. I love you so much!
