Bev Brooks
Oh, "Chuck - eee- Jan", handsome Lance & lovely "little" Penny -
I made a "pilgrimage" down to McKnight yesterday, & Bobby told me of our PRECIOUS Sylvia's Home-going! I was SHOCKED & TRULY disappointed, as I had sooo many questions I planned yesterday, to go & ask her!
I was out of internet touch for about 6 weeks, & wasn't advised by anyone from the family beforehand, so PLEASE forgive me for the delay in sending this message from my heart.
Your Sweet, Sainted & AMAZING Mom was the LAST to leave us of, what I dubbed, "Our Golden Triad of McKnight Community".
They were:
The "Blondes" of Joe & Janette Norman - who raised 3 fun-loving, "tow-headed" boys, in Henderson;
The "Brunets" of, "Jolly" (aka Gylie) Giles & lovely Norma Lee Brooks - who raised the 3 of us girls (I'm the eldest ;-) in Elderville;
And last, but by NO MEANS least, there were -
The "Redheads" of the kind & loving, Max & Sylvia Moore - who raised you 4 in Gilmer!
Oh, how the 5 who'd gone before REJOICED, when their life-long friend finally joined them - to complete the final journey to our REAL HOME!
My, how our Daddies LOVED the memories of their childhood together! If they weren't hunting in the woods or fishing the Angelina, then, in the summertime or skinny-dippin' in the ole swimming hole & later, making the Saturday runs to the big town of Henderson. There, they'd do each of their families' bartering at the store, swapping fresh milk & eggs for flour, sugar & salt.
And in 1950, when news of the Korean Conflict hit rural Rusk county, all 3 of these "Golden Triads" shared with one another their dream of joining the Navy, to see the world!
It was God's will that your Daddy was deferred, as he stayed home, helped his idolized BIG brother, Royce establish the E TX area's FIRST-EVER Rural Telephone Co-op! Through decades of mergers & acquisitions, we know it eventually "morphed" into what we know today to be General Telephone/Sprint?, and the North E TX 9-1-1 District!
But more importantly for Your DEAR family, he was able to continue courting your AMAZING Mother - this silver-haired DYNAMO, who was THE Love of His LIFE!
I'll ALWAYS remember our ALL DAY, combined New Year's reunion/family celebrations - when WE were little. And I don't know about YOU, but I GREATLY look forward with GLEE & child-like Anticipation, to that soon-coming DAY when we'll ALL meet again - Here, There or in the Air - for our ULTIMATE Reunion!
Until THEN -
BLESSINGS abundant, BEYOND ANYTHING You ALL could EVEN ASK OR THINK!
FOREVER, Your old Friend, the Eldest from Elderville -
