Sylvia Ann Monsivais' Obituary
Funeral services for Sylvia Ann Monsivais, 61, of Longview, will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park in Longview. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Sylvia was born on October 12, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas to Tomas and Eliza Garza. She grew up in San Antonio where she met and married the love of her life, Antonio Monsivais when they were both teenagers. Together they had three children and came to Longview in 1975. Mrs. Monsivais was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and cooking for all her family on their Sunday gatherings at her house. She loved being a grandmother and being the number 1 fan of her grandkids in all kinds of sports and school activities. In later years when she couldn’t get around as well, she didn’t let that keep her from cheering them on as she always loved hearing about the results of their games. She kept up with all of her family thru her social media. She will be deeply missed by all her family and loved ones.
Sylvia was only 61 when she passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 surrounded by her family. It’s hard to say goodbye. We wish that we had more time and that so much of her life had not been lost to her illness, that things could have been different for her, and for us. While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. But even though she is gone, she has left the legacy of her love and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives will remain, and I ask you to keep those memories alive by sharing them with the family, and with one another.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tomas Garza Sr; and her nephew Christopher Tomas Garza.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Antonio Monsivais Sr; daughter and son-in-law Sonia and Juan Ballesteros; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Priscilla Monsivais and Antonio Jr and Erika Monsivais; her mother, Eliza Garza, her brothers Robert Garza and wife Diana, Tomas Garza Jr, and Rodolfo Garza and wife Lupe; her sister Margarita Monsivais and husband Abraham; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
