Sylvia Majeski's Obituary
Sylvia Amelia Majeski at the age of 85, peacefully went home to heaven where her Lord and Savior greeted her and others that have preceded her, on July 2, 2015 at 6:20 pm in my arms, at our home in Longview, Texas.
Sylvia was born in Kansas City, Kansas to John & Amelia Skorek Majewski from Poland.
Sylvia graduated from Ward High School in Kansas City, Ks on May 28, 1948. She participated on the girls basketball team, where she acquired the nickname “SAM” for Samson, which happen to be her initials, because of her height of 5’10”, and was in the school band, played the drums. At Donnelly College in K.C., Ks, she received her Associate in Science on June 2, 1950. While at Donnelly, she was on the women’s softball team and a majorette. She continued her education at St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Nursing and graduated February 26, 1953. About a year later she moved to Phoenix, Arizona and started her nursing career and on July 26, 1954 gave birth to me, her only child. Her nursing career spanned over 40 yrs. in Arizona, Texas, Nevada and California, working in hospitals and mostly private duty nursing. She enjoyed prospecting a lot and would do it when she had the opportunity, trying to make a better life for us and others. As a single parent, it wasn’t always easy to raise a child by herself. She did her best with the grace of God. She had a big heart and always tried to help others. After being on her own for over 60 yrs., moms health became poor and could no longer care for her self. So on July 15, 2012 she came to live with Dale and I from Arizona. This was an answer to years of prayer, so I could better care for her, instead of trying to do for her long distance. This also gave us an opportunity to make up for lost time and restore a mother/daughter relationship. During this time, in September of 2013, God allowed me the honors of leading her in the prayer of salvation. To see that transformation take place and the peace that came over her, was priceless. God is so good!
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents John and Amelia Majewski; her stepfather Floyd Leavitt of Bolivar, Mo.; two sisters, Christina Majewski of K.C., Ks. and Rajah Cibolski of Wichita, Ks.; two grand children Joshua and Esther (did not go full term) of Glendale, California.
