Syble Gertrude Alexander's Obituary
Syble Gertrude Covey-Alexander—Longview, TX
Syble Gertrude Covey-Alexander departed this earthly life on February 2, 2018 at the inspiring age of 95. She was born in Ore City, Texas to Tommy Hugh Covey and Emma Blanche Ferguson. Services were held at Rader Funeral Home and burial was at Ore City Cemetery beside her husband. Willie “Bill” Hamilton Alexander.
Her list of accomplishments is long because she chose to use many wonderful talents given in trust to help those around her. She worked for attorney, and then County Judge, Henry Atkins for 25 years and was a valuable assistant and a devoted friend. Her friends have said she was an inspiration to them, leading by example. She encouraged many women to strive for positions of leadership in the community, building strength of character and tremendous courage. It was her zest for life that drew the crowd. She adored attending all kinds of dances: square dancing and round dancing. She and Bill adored touring around the dance floor to the tune of “San Antonio Rose”. She was an avid gardener, working the earth. She and Bill traveled extensively in the motor home and dearly loved to water ski with Bill at the wheel of the boat.
Gertrude smiled with her eyes and had an infectious laugh. No one could deny her unique sense of style, turning heads everywhere she went; always looking like a million bucks.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willie “Bill” Hamilton Alexander, a son Harold Dean Alexander and other dear family.
Surviving is her blended family: a son, Dana Hamilton Alexander, Dwayne Murlyn Alexander, Royden Edwin Alexander, (Colleen). Her grandchildren: Chrystal, David, Kathleen, Sheila, James, Jana, David, Eric and Robert. She had Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great- Grandchildren whom she adored, and numerous nieces, nephews and various other family.
Pallbearers were Keith Barber, Jimmy Green, Michael Green, Andy Fischtziur, Joshua Dunaway, and Steven Kofoed.
If for only a moment, we must bid farewell, we know that we will see each other again at Jesus’ feet. Keep’em busy GG, until we meet again.
2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally: Brothers rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of Love and Peace will be with you.
