Susan Luman's Obituary
On Monday, February 6, 2024, beloved mother, wife and sister, Susan Weatherly Luman, left with the sunrise to join her Lord in Heaven. She was born Susan Annette Weatherly on December 23, 1959, in Victoria, Texas to loving parents, William Kent and Laura Belle Weatherly. As a child, Susie was energetic and loved playing outdoors and taking road trips with her family. The family moved often, following Kent’s job. She later told stories of her childhood to her own children. She grew up loving laughter and drama. After her family settled in Longview, TX, Susie took up theatre as a teenager, attending three years at Longview High School and graduating from Kilgore High School.
In September of 1983, she found her calling as a mother, and was blessed again in 1985. Susan was the kind of mother that always put her family first, that loved and supported her children through the good times and the hard times.
In 2009, Susie met and married the man that would love her and make her happy for the rest of her life. Her husband, Robert Kevin “Spooky” Luman, stood by her side for every moment. They walked in faith for the remainder of her years, through fourteen years of marriage. They have had the kind of love most only dream of having.
Susie was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme in March of 2023. Initially given mere weeks to months, she fought for each precious moment with her family. She passed peacefully, surrounded by people that love her, in her sleep as the sun rose.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother- in-law, Deborah and Johnny Lang, and brother-in-law, Jim Davis. She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Luman, sister, Pamela Davis, Brother and sister-in-law Nanette Weatherly, daughter and son-in law Elissa and Christopher Good, son and daughter-in-law, Loyal Chance and Michelle Gilbert, daughter, Casey Luman Moore, daughter, Ashton Luman, and son, Joshua Luman, as well as many loving grandchildren: Haley Horton, Bailey Horton, Annwyn Worsham, Mackenzy Moore, Joseph Kramer, Silas Gilbert, Ayla Gilbert, John Asher Good, and Isaiah Luman and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend our special heartfelt thanks to Dana Shankle for your love, friendship and special care; to Dr. Kathleen Wiendorf-Harris, Dr. Kavita Nirmal, and Dr. Narasimha Jatavallabhula for your exquisite degree of care and diagnostics; to David and Deborah Gilbert, for being a loving and open support system and great prayer warriors and supportive family even when you didn’t have to; to Reginald, Kwame and the team at the Albertson’s pharmacy, for caring above and beyond and always doing more than what was expected; to the team at the Longview Cancer Center for the generous and meticulous treatment of cancer and always treating each person as an individual and not just a patient; to Hospice Plus for the kindness, guidance, help and care that sustained us and Susie through the end; and finally to the thousands of prayer warriors who have supported our family and Susan through this battle journey. We could not have done it without each of you. You have our deepest gratitude.
