Susan Elizabeth Hagstrom's Obituary
Susan (“Sue”) Elizabeth Hagstrom passed away on December 27, 2019 at the age of 59 and left a big hole in the hearts of many. Sue was the light of her family and always brought a sense of humor to many of her conversations. She loved people and always had something nice to say about everyone she met.
Sue was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on September 4, 1960. She graduated from Longview High School in Longview, Texas in June 1982. Afterwards, she lived in Buffalo, New York for 33 years and was employed at Southeast Community Work Center, where people with developmental disabilities can lead fulfilling and productive lives. In 2015, she moved to live with her sister Anne’s family in Virginia. For four years, Sue attended Circle Center Adult Day Services where she flourished and brought much joy to both staff and participants. Recently she began attending Diversity Day Support Program in Chesterfield. At Diversity, she loved meeting new friends and going out into the community. The highlight of Sue’s summer, and possibly the entire year, was always her week at Camp Baker in Chesterfield. She excitedly looked forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.
Sue loved bowling, needlework, word-search puzzles, and crafts. She was an avid fan of Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons TV series. She enthusiastically cheered on the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. A favorite pastime was making sure that everyone knew what the weather was going to be at any point on any given day. Sue attended Village Church of Midlothian and could hardly wait to share the events of her week with others. She will be remembered for often ending her notes and cards to friends and loved ones with “P.S. God loves you.”
Sue is predeceased by her parents Mr. Rodger Hagstrom and Mrs. Jacqueline Hagstrom. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings and their spouses, Carl R. Hagstrom (sister-in-law Frenchie) of San Antonio, TX, Anne K. Greenwald (brother-in-law Pete) of Midlothian, VA, Chris Hagstrom (sister-in-law Susan) of Longview, TX, Mary F. Alexander of Dallas, TX, and Curt R Hagstrom (sister-in-law Tish) of Dallas, TX. Additionally, she was adored and loved by 14 nieces and nephews and 5 grandnieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at Village Church of Midlothian, 233 N Courthouse Rd at 10:30 a.m. Sue will be laid to rest alongside her mother at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Baker, 7600 Beach Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23238.
