Susan Dutton Akers
Memorial services for Susan Dutton Akers, of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, November 28, 2001, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Dr. Jim Welch and the Reverend Bill Cunningham officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the funeral home. She passed away Sunday, November 25, in a Longview hospital. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Akers was born in Mounds, Oklahoma to Thomas and Hazel Hunt Dutton. She had been a resident of Longview for the past 20 years, having moved from Houston. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Longview, and was a member of the Clyde Hall Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer for the Longview chapter of the American Red Cross, and in 1990, she received the volunteer of the year award. Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her daughter, Jill Elizabeth Akers, her sister, Julia Downing, and her brother Robert Dutton. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Ralph G. Akers of Longview; son, John T. Akers of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister, Carolyn Ridgeway, brothers, Thomas Dutton and John Dutton all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 400 N. Fredonia St., Longview, Texas 75601.
