Susan D. Milstead's Obituary
A Celebration of Life service for Susan Delane Milstead, 76, of Mt. Enterprise will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church in Oak Flat, Texas. Lunch with family and friends will be included in the celebration.
Mrs. Milstead passed peacefully from this life the evening of July 2, 2011 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded by her loving family during the last days and moments of her life.
Susan was born in Oak Flat, Texas in 1934. After graduating from Laneville High School in 1954, she attended business school in Henderson, Texas. Susan married Lyndall Milstead, her high school sweetheart, in September of 1955. She was a life-long member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church. Susan worked as a bookkeeper in the family business, Milstead TV & Appliance, for more than 25 years. Prior to this, she worked as a bookkeeper for several different companies in East Texas. In 2000, she retired from Stephen F. Austin State University after working as a Financial Aid Counselor for ten years.
Susan loved spending time with her family, attending church, gospel music concerts, and reading. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her husband said only God could have chosen Susan for him.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lyndall Milstead; three daughters, Lynda Langham and husband Ken, Tammy Ham and husband Stephen, Jerri Hagler and husband Scott; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Langham, Carrie Langham, Brett Vardeman, Houston Hagler, Delanie Hagler, Christian Hagler, Mason Hagler, and Benjamin Hagler; four step-grandchildren, Aaron Ham, Sally Smith, Danielle Hagler, and Nicholas Hagler; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, Texas 75701.
