Sue Ellen Southard's Obituary
Sue Ellen Mandeville passed away November 27, 2022, in Longview, Texas. She and her twin sister, Mary
were born October 19, 1940, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, to Albert Eugene and Emaclaire
Mandeville. In 1946 the Mandeville’s moved to Lufkin, Texas. Sue graduated from Lufkin High School in
1959 and attended North Texas State University with her twin sister between 1959 and 1960. She
worked for the United States Federal Government for 34 years with most of her service to the
Accounting Division of the General Services Administration.
Sue married Damon Lavon Southard, Sr. on August 4, 1962. Damon preceded Sue in death November
20, 2022. She is survived by their son, Scott and his wife Karen of Hallsville, Texas; daughter Cindy
Blackwell and her husband Scott of Stephenville, Texas; and daughter Kim and her husband Steve of
Christoval, Texas. She was known as Mimi to her grandchildren.
Sue and Damon loved entertaining family and friends at their lake house. She also enjoyed spending
time with her grandchildren, fishing, bowling, and travelling with her sisters and friends. Her self-
deprecating nature and fun spirit combined with her uncanny ability to get herself into humorous
situations always brought a smile and laughter to everyone around her.
In lieu of flowers, Sue’s family requests donations be made in her name to either the Michael J. Fox
Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at michaeljfox.org or to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
