Sue Carolyn Newsom's Obituary
Sue Carolyn Newsom, a cherished teacher and beloved matriarch. March 13, 1935 - February 12, 2024.
It is with great sadness, yet joy in the promise of eternal life, that we announce the passing of Sue Carolyn Newsom, age 88, who left us peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024. Born on March 13, 1935, in Texarkana, Texas, Sue touched the lives of many as a dedicated third grade teacher for 33 years at Spring Hill Elementary. She continued to nurture and inspire as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Sue dedicated her life to raising her children, then furthering her education to become a teacher. As a third-grade teacher, Mrs. Newsom was known for her gentle patience and the unique ability to recognize and nurture the potential within each of her students. Countless former students, whom she referred to as her babies, fondly recall her as an influential figure in their early education.
Sue was a faithful church member and sang in the choir as long as she was physically able.
Proceeded in death by her loving husband Hal B. Newsom, left to honor her memory are her children, Redonna and Fred Irwin, Cynthia Newsom, and Hal and Diane Newsom. Grandchildren Nathan and Dana Irwin, Keelan Irwin, Erin and Nate Higar, Emily Shaver and fiancé John Stout, Jeffrey Shaver and his children, Harlynn, and Elena; Rachel Newsom, Alexa Newsom, and fiancé Billy Jackson. Great grandchildren Madelyn, Savannah, and Ryder Irwin, Nathan, Blayne, Presley, Robyn and Evie (Erin and Nate’s family), Slayde, Olivia and McKenze (Emily and John’s family) and Harper and Kaden Hussong. She is also survived by her brother Rev. David Williamson. and his wife Shirley and daughter Margaret Ann of Ore City.
Also left to cherish her memory is Leonides “Maria” Ramirez, who was instrumental in Sue’s comfort and loving care, and upon her promise to Sue, stayed by her side until the very end. Their friendship lasted almost forty years.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview from 4 - 6 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11 am, at the First Methodist Church of Ore City Faith Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center or the charity of your choosing.
