Sue Hill McGaw
Sue Hill McGaw, 81, passed away April 5, 2011, in Longview. She was born March 25, 1930, in Greenville, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ocie Ray and Ada Louise Hill of Longview.
She is survived by her husband Bob of 59 ½ years; two sons, Bryan and wife Ilana of Longview, and Kyle and partner Jesse of Austin; two grandchildren, Kristen McGaw of Mesquite and Kelly McGaw of Stillwater, OK; sister-in-law Rose Marie Hankins and husband Roger of Waco; and sister-in-law Ruby McGaw of Spring, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Sue grew up in Greenville, but during WWII she moved to Dallas and attended Sunset High School before moving to Longview, and finished the last two years at Longview High School, where she was nominated basketball Queen. She attended Kilgore College where she was a reserve Rangerette.
She then was secretary for D. A. Benton before going to work for Longview National Bank.
In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart and they moved to Bryan, Texas. She worked at the Bryan Bank while he attended Texas A&M, and she earned her PTHS Putting Hubby Thru School. Finally settling back in Longview, Sue and Bob raised a family and were very active with the First Christian Church. She worked several years for the Gregg County Tax Office.
She always loved their couples club and her girls bridge club. She had a long life with lifelong friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at the First Christian Church with Dr. Richard Emerson, Dr. Jim Lewis and Reverend David Farmer officiating. Private interment will be in Memory Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
