Funeral services for Sue Cumbie Fort, 67, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Monday, November 20, 2006 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Reverend?s Tim Watson and Dewayne Beaty officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM today, November 19, 2006 at the funeral home, 1617 Judson Road.
She was born on May 6, 1939 in Gregg County to Jim and Isaline Cumbie. She passed away on Thursday evening, November 16, 2006 in a Longview hospital.
Mrs. Fort was a graduate of White Oak High School, where she was a majorette. She attended Kilgore College, where she played in the Ranger Band, was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University, and received her Masters Degree at University of Texas at Tyler.
Mrs. Fort was employed by Longview Independent School District, and taught at Forest Park Middle School before retiring after over 33 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longview. She was also active in many clubs throughout the Longview area including; New Comers, Oak Crest Woman?s Club, Women?s Forum, Retired Teachers Association, and the Ivy League Garden Club.
A loving wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Fort of Longview; sons, Lyle and Billy Fort of Longview; sister and brother-in-law, Wanzelle & Bill Finley of White Oak; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
