Stoney Nelson's Obituary
Longview. Memorial services for Stoney R. Nelson, 68, of Longview will be Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary of First Methodist Church, Longview.
A native of Kansas and Nebraska, Stoney made Longview and Texas his adopted home in 1983. He embraced the area in the same way he approached all of life. If you've ever experienced a hug from this "Bear of a Man" you realize it was with passion and vigor. Stoney absolutely loved life and was fond of the saying "He loved the ponies that pranced". Whether it was his affection for motorcycles, the martial arts, his beloved Cornhuskers, or socializing with family and
friends, Stoney was always fully engaged. His infectious laugh was endearing.
Many, many associates of Stoney came to know him because of some act of kindness. Professionally in his banking career, personally as a trained drug and alcohol abuse counselor, or simply as a friend, Stoney touched many lives. Stoney overcame a lot in life, especially his early years, and willingly gave of himself to others because of his experiences and selfless nature. His positive influence has and will affect generations.
Surviving Stoney is his wife of nearly 50 years, Marlene, sons Chad and Kevin and their wives, daughter Shawn, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A large loving family of brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces also cherish his memory. The family will receive visitors Friday evening, July 22, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Cook Foyer Whaley St. entrance of First Methodist Church, Longview.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make a Wish Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
