Stephen lived most of his life in Longview, was a member of First United Methodist Church, and graduated from Longview High School in 1959. In high school, he was a member of the choir and earned a position as a bass in the 1959 All-State Chorus. With the YMCA, he participated in a bill-writing competition where he worked with several friends to write a bill which required vehicles to have only electric, rather than vacuum-powered, windshield wipers. His team won first place in the competition. Some of his fondest childhood memories included canoe trips into Canada, attending Boy Scout camp, and spending time outdoors with neighborhood friends. He was a member of the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow. He served in the United States Army Medical Field Services as a dental assistant. After working for McKesson and Robbins Drugs as a zone sales manager, he returned to Longview in 1975 as a partner in his father’s business, Louis Morgan Drugs.
Stephen married his wife, Nancy Nell Weaver Morgan, in 1964. He was an avid classic car collector. His favorite hobbies included listening to classical music, playing golf, making golf clubs, fishing, and traveling throughout the United States and abroad with Africa being his favorite international destination. He also enjoyed spending time entertaining friends and family at his lake house on Lake Gladewater and tubing on the Comal River in New Braunfels for 45 years with OHCAT friends. Stephen got great enjoyment from attending any event in which his grandchildren participated including sports, band, and dance recitals; however, his favorite was watching them in activities at camp pick up at Camp Waldemar and Camp LaJunta.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Evelyn Hickey and Louis Morgan; parents-in-law, Willie Mae Jetton and James Richard (Dick) Weaver; and brothers-in-law, James Marvin Beck, James Richard Weaver, Jr., and William Collins Morris.
