Mass of Christian burial for Stephen McCabe Purcell, 90, of Ore City, will be at 2 PM Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at St. Anthony?s Catholic Church with Father Mark Dunne officiating. A Rosary will be recited at 6 PM Tuesday, November 2, at Rader Funeral Home. Entombment will be at 12 Noon Thursday, November, 4, in Calvary Hill Mausoleum in Dallas under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. He passed away Monday, November 01, 2004 at his residence.
Visitation will be following the Rosary from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Purcell was born November 1, 1914 to Stephen George and Ruth McCabe Purcell. He had been a resident of the East Texas area since 1951, and was a resident of Ore City for the past 11 years. He was a metallurgist, and a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Mines. Mr. Purcell completed graduate work at Purdue University in the development of basic oxygen furnace for which a patent was awarded. He was the superintendent of the Open Hearth at Lone Star Steel, Inc., for 30 years, and at the time of his retirement, was the Manager of Operations. He was a former president of the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers, and a member of the Cattleman?s Association.
Mr. Purcell was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Katherine Elizabeth Kozak Purcell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 13 years, Glenda Coleman Purcell of Ore City; his children, Kathy and husband Justice Kerry Fitzgerald of Dallas, and Stephen and wife Elizabeth Purcell of Hickory, NC.; step-daughters, Christine Cameron of Kilgore, TX., Elizabeth O?Rielly and husband Robert of San Anselmo, CA., and Dotti Ivey, MD., and husband Rusty of Longview; 12 grandchildren, Klaire and Will Powers, Kyran Fitzgerald, Krissy Fitzgerald, Kerry and Ashley Fitzgerald, Kathleen Fitzgerald, Theresa Purcell, Sarah Purcell, Kathryn Ivey, Klair Ivey, Caroline Ivey, Joseph O?Rielly, and Madison O?Rielly; 3 great grandchildren, McCabe, Emma, and Grady Powers; brothers, Larry Purcell of Wright, MN., and Bill Purcell of Pryor Lake, MN.
